The 1960s and 1970s saw a resurgence of feminist activity, including the women's liberation movement and the more mainstream feminist groups. This period has been called the Second Wave of feminism, with the first wave usually thought of as being from 1848-1920, when women won the vote. what did the feminists of the 1960s and 1970s want? Feminism changed many women's lives and created new worlds of possibility for education, empowerment, working women, feminist art and feminist theory. For some, the goals of the feminist movement were simple: let women have freedom, equal opportunity and control over their lives. The feminist movement of the 1960s and '70s originally focused on dismantling workplace inequality, such as denial of access to better jobs and salary inequity, via anti-discrimination laws. In 1964, Representative Howard Smith of Virginia proposed to add a prohibition on gender discrimination into the Civil Rights Act that was under consideration. He was greeted by laughter from the other Congressmen, but with leadership from Representative Martha Griffiths of Michigan, the law passed with the amendment intact. However, it quickly became clear that the newly established Equal Employment Opportunity Commission would not enforce the law's protection of women workers, and so a group of feminists including Betty Friedan decided to found an organization that would fight gender discrimination through the courts and legislatures. In the summer of 1966, they launched the National Organization for Women, which went on to lobby Congress for pro-equality laws and assist women seeking legal aid as they battled workplace discrimination in the courts.
Task 2 "Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema", written in 1973 and published in 1975 in the influential British film theory journal Screen. It later appeared in a collection of her essays entitled Visual and Other Pleasures, as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her article, which was influenced by the theories of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan, is one of the first major essays that helped shift the orientation of film theory towards a psychoanalytic framework. Question 6
Question 6
Throughout this process I have used different pieces of
technology to complete all set tasks.
The majority of the technology and software I already knew how to use
but I learned how to use it more to my advantage. The apple mac computer seen
to the right is what I completed and edited a lot of my work on, though there
were a few tasks, which I decided to complete at home on my MacBook, which is
very similar to an apple mac.
I used a canon camera to take shots for my front cover,
over the process of taking these photos I learnt how to position the camera and
different function the camera could do. I learnt after my first batch of photos
of my model that they needed to be redone as the shots. Failed to show an
indie-pop culture, Then in my second batch of photos decided to use a different
location with changes in the lighting (some on camera, some natural) to emphasise
the photographs.
here you can see a
screenshot of some of the work I've been producing in photoshop, I learnt how
to use the spot eraser tool within selections. I learnt how to change the
saturation and contrast on my photos to give them a more life.
On top of this I learnt how to use rulers to lay my work out
in a professional way.
I used different forms of social networking to gain audience
response and to update my work and research as a developer. I used Facebook
because it allowed me to send images to fellow classmates to ask for
suggestions on how to improve my work which lead to me changing the majority of
my pictures. I use blogger to post my research and work.

Question 5
Question 5
Having a teenager on my cover will attract my target
audience as they are of a similar age so they can relate. The fact that he is
male will not only attract other males as they are able to relate, but will
also will attract females of a similar age. “DUFFY” in large font will attract
his fans. The colour scheme is not aimed towards just one specific gender but
will attract both genders. Bright, contrasting colours to ensure that it is
eye-catching.
£3.00 an issue as my target audience range from the age of 14-20
At this age, they would not have a lot of money to be spending on magazines so
making it affordable would make for people able to buy it and will make it a
popular magazine among youths. Direct address from my main model draws in
readers and gives a personal feel. Buzz word “Exclusive” makes readers feel
special and privileged, making my magazine stand out above the rest as the
interview is ONLY in my magazine. The buzz word “VIP access” also attracts
readers as they know that they are getting new and recent information about
their favourite artists.

Question 4
Question 4
I have
developed my magazine in the sense that it represents the more intellectual and
fan group side of indie-pop, rather than the event and festival aimed audience.
This is because they are more likely to read the information provided in the
magazine.
This
audience that I am aiming for consists of both male and females, from 14 years
old all the way up to 20, because this would also include a lot more to do with
social media, though a lot of older people do use it, I feel that only this age
group would use it sensibly and appreciate the content more.
I also
have tried my best to use colour scheme to fit in with the audience themes
keeping to red, also using white and black where is necessary to make things
look more sensible. (Picture on right)
a lot of my headings and fonts are also kept Large and in
stylised shapes to keep it appealing to the younger generations. The bold
colours also fit with the indie-pop culture, (see left picture)

Question 3
Question 3
If the magazine product had been taken on by a media institution that didn't attract the audience then the magazine product may not get the audience it needs. For example, my magazine cover has the image of a teenager that relates to the target audience that the media institution may be looking for. It also has music references such as the headings that include big names in the music industry that may attract the audience. To tell of it's music genre also, I have used a guitar in the photo to show that it is of a music genre. Bauer magazine would not be a good distributer for me to use as they distribute magazines like kerrang and Q which are nothing like my magazine.

Question 2
Question 2
My magazine is a indiepop magazine and therefore appeals to
a certain social group of both genders, aged 13-19. I believe that it
represents social groups in the same way as other indie-pop magazines like 'Mojo'
and 'Q'. These are Both very popular
magazines. People who class themselves as part of an 'indie-pop' social group
are all about following trends while adding there own unique style to it to
show individuality, which is what I wanted my magazine to be and therefore,
appeals to individuals.
I did this by making my models dress in suitable outfits,
e.g. checked shirts, super slim jeans etc. The models hairs was in wavy with a
small fringe which gave him a casual stylish look which reflected the style of
my target audience. I directed different poses for my model that I believe
represent the social groups. (This image
to the left isn't one that made it onto my magazine but it is a good example to
use when explaining the poses).
I chose a male model as this straight away represents the male
side of my target audience attracting them to the magazine, similar to this, a
female might see a good looking boy and want to know more about him. So, in
truth this technique attracts both genders.
I gave my magazine a colour scheme of red, white and black.
These are all very clean and clinical, this connotes that the magazine is very
professional. As the colours are very basic but also well thought out, it makes
my magazine seem a lot more appealing to the target audience. I have used the
same house colours throughout the magazine which gives it a consistent theme.
